What works today

This is what the platform can do today: the capabilities that are live in the code, plus the ones that are partly there and still being finished. Most of it can be seen on the public instance at beta.archetype-pal.ink. Each capability is described in depth under For researchers; for what comes next, see the Roadmap.

Annotation & TEI

Shipped

Lightbox & Collections

Shipped

Persistent worksets, side-by-side comparison of hands, sticky notes and shareable views for research and teaching.

  • Backlog: filter presets, workspace templates, freeform crop, px↔mm measurement calibration, richer image notes, offline use.

Collection management

Shipped

A staff backoffice for the corpus itself: resumable image upload per item part, served as lossless JP2 over IIIF; moving an image to another item part; and per-language site labels for project-specific copy such as the home page.

  • Not yet: a sub-folder chooser and semi-automatic bulk assignment of uploads to item parts.

Partly shipped; more underway.

Interoperability & Standards

In progress

Standards-based export and import so the scholarship is portable and citable.

  • Shipped: W3C Web Annotations (JSON-LD) and IIIF Presentation 3 export; TEI and HTR (PAGE-XML/ALTO) import.
  • Next: a reverse W3C-annotation → graph import path.
  • Next: a IIIF Collection endpoint spanning multiple manuscripts.
